"Please wait for the System Event Notification Service" error message when users try to log on or log off a terminal server that is running Lync 2010

Symptoms

When users try to log on or log off a terminal server that is running a Microsoft Lync 2010 client, the Windows session stops responding.  Additionally, the users receive the following error message:
"Please wait for the System Event Notification Service"

Cause

This issue occurs because the Lync 2010 client uses a legacy Windows API to obtain the Windows logon or logoff event notifications.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update.
